Phytophthora niederhauserii Z.G. Abad & J.A. Abad 2014
This oomycete is widely distributed and causes a root disease on ornamental plants as well as on orchard and forest trees. The holotype has been collected in the U.S.A. from English ivy (Hedera helix). The symptoms include crown and stem rot, chlorosis, wilting, leaf blight, cankers and gumming (Abad et al., 2014).
P. niederhauserii is heterothallic (self-sterile), fast growing and adapted to high temperature. The sporangia are non-papillate and ellipsoid. In liquid media, "unique toruloid lobate irregular branched hyphal swellings" are produced.
