Phytophthora litchii (C.C. Chen ex W.H. Ko, H.S. Chang, H.J. Su, C.C. Chen & L.S. Leu) Voglmayr, Göker, Riethm. & Oberw. 2007 - (lychee downy blight)

The oomycete is found in south-eastern Asia where it infects mainly lychee trees. Leaves, shoots, inflorescences and fruits can become infected, the fruits also after the harvest. Yield and quality of the fruits are significantly reduced. The sprongia release zoospores in water which initiate the infections and the durable oospores are the overwintering stag of the pathogen.
