Phytonemus pallidus (Banks) - (cyclamen mite)

The mite is widely distributed and is mainly known as a pest of strawberries. Other plants like various ornamentals (especially cyclamen) are also infested. The young leaves, flowers and fruits are attacked. This results in reduced growth and stunting of the plants, as well as in smaller and brownish strawberries which are unmarketable. Management of the mite relies usually on pesticides, but biological control agents like predatory mites have been also studied.
