Phoracantha recurva Newman, 1840
The beetle is native to Australia and has been accidentally introduced into many countries. For example, it is reported from California, U.S.A. and the Mediterranean Region since the 1990s. It infests the inner bark and can cause serious damage to young trees. In older Eucalyptus trees, mainly stressed or dying trees are attacked.
The species is closely related to Phoracantha semipunctata which has also been introduced into many countries. P. recurva can be distinguished by the elytra pattern. In some regions, the egg parasitoid Avetianella longoi has been successfully introduced against P. recurva.
