Phlebotomus pedifer Lewis, Mutinga & Ashford, 1972
The species of sandfly is found in eastern Africa and appears to be the only vector of cutaneous leismaniasis (Leishmania aethiopica) in Ethiopia and Kenya. P. pedifer is anthropophilic and also feeds on small mammals like hyraxes. In parts of Ethiopia Heterohyrax brucei is a reservoir of cutaneous leismaniasis (Pareyn et al., 2019).
