Phlebotomus ariasi Tonnoir, 1921

This sandfly is found in the western Mediterranean and is a vector of visceral and canine leishmaniasis. In some areas (e.g. southern France), it is common and the main vector of Leishmania infantum. It is active during dusk and night, and often found near and in houses. Unlike other Phlebotomus species which stay close to their breeding sites, P. ariasi can move for more than 1 km.
