Peach latent mosaic viroid (PLMVd)

The viroid was first identified in France. It causes fruit deformation, decline and rapid aging of peach trees. It might induce chlorotic mosaic symptoms or extreme chlorosis and albinism (peach calico) on the leaves. Infected trees have a delayed foliation, flowering and ripening of the fruits. The disease remains latent for around 5 years before symptoms appear. The viroid spreads by infected propagating material, contaminated pruning tools and aphids.
