Pea seed-borne mosaic virus (PSbMV)

The virus has a world-wide distribution and causes important diseases of leguminous crops like peas and faba beans. Disease symptoms are typically mild and may include mosaic, stunting, yellowing and leaf curling. However, symptomless infections are also common. Seeds show brown rings or line patterns. The virus is readily transmitted through the seeds, but also by aphids in a non-persistent manner or by mechanical means. Resistant varieties are known and are the preferred control method. Like in other potyviruses, it has long, flexuous particles (about 700-800 nm long and 10 nm wide) with a single-stranded RNA genome.
