Orthotospovirus tomatozonae

Assigned virus:
tomato zonate spot virus (TZSV)

The tomato zonate spot virus has been described from southwestern China as infecting tomato, chili pepper and various other plants (Dong et al., 2008). The symptoms include characteristic concentric zoned ringspots on the leaves and fruits, chlorotic and necrotic spots, as well as stunting and necrosis of the leaf tips.

Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis) has been demonstrated to be the main vector (Zheng et al., 2014). RNA analysis showed the virus to be closely related to the watermelon silver mottle virus (Orthotospovirus citrullomaculosi).
