A histological examination of the venom apparatus of Microctonus hyperodae Loan (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)
New Zealand Entomologist 29 (1), 103-105
Abstract: The venom apparatus of the parasitoid wasp Microctonus hyperodae Loan (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was found to have typical type 2 morphology, as defined by Edson and Vinson (1979), with a thin walled venom reservoir and a pair of unbranched venom glands leading to a common duct which joined the reservoir at its base. The venom glands are only about half the length of those found in Microctonus aethiopoides Loan and are made up of a single layer of cells surrounding a central lumen. The cells have a distinctive large vacuole in their cytoplasm.
