Mononychellus planki (McGregor, 1950) - (soybean green mite)
This spider mite is found in South and Central America, mainly on leguminous crops (Fabaceae) like soybeans, common beans and groundnuts. In Brazil, it is the most frequent mite on soybeans and it attacks both leaf surfaces. It can cause chlorosis and significant damage (Rezende et al., 2012). Other crops like cotton or okra may be also infested. Unlike many other spider mites, M. planki produces little or no webbing. The common name refers to the dark green colour of its body, with head and legs being colourless.
