Microctonus Wesmael, 1835

The species of Microctonus are parasitoids of adult beetles from a number of families. Those species which are important as biological control agents, are parasitoids of certain pest weevils. For example, Microctonus hyperodae is native to South America and has been successfully introduced into New Zealand against the Argentina stem weevil, Listronotus bonariensis. Microctonus is closely related to the genus Perilitus and has been regarded as a subgenus of Perilitus for many years. Both genera can be separated by their wing venation.
