Meccus pallidipennis (Stål, 1872)

This species of kissing bugs is common in Mexico and the main vector of Chagas disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi in that country. Around 3/4th of the Chagas disease cases in Mexico are attributed to transmission by M. pallidipennis.

M. pallidipennis can be found among stones and is also frequently collected from houses. In some surveys around one third of the specimens tested positive for T. cruzi. The adults have a length of 30-35 mm. Some authors consider M. pallidipennis to be a subspecies of Meccus phyllosomus.
