Mansonia titillans (Walker, 1848)
This mosquito is widely distributed in South and Central America, including southern parts of North America. It is suspected that it can transmit filariasis and Venezuelan equine encephalitis.
M. titillans is an out-doors biter that can travel some distance from its breeding sites. These are mainly marshes, ponds, and lakes. Like other Mansonia species, M. titillans attaches itself to aquatic plants and appears to prefer water lettuce and water hyacinth (e.g. see Cartner et al., 2018).
