Machlomovirus (genus)
The viruses of this genus are similar to 'maize chlorotic mottle virus' (Machlomovirus zeae), currently the only member of this genus. That virus causes systemic chlorotic leaf mottling on maize and is widely distributed. It is transmitted by insects and also mechanically and through seeds. The particles are around 30 nm large, non-enveloped, isometric and in size and structure typical for Tombusviridae. The genome consists of single stranded positive sense RNA, 4-5 kb long and with 3 open reading frames.
