Liriomyza Mik, 1894 - (serpentine leafminers)

This genus of leafminer flies contains around 400 species, including important agricultural pests like Liriomyza trifolii, L. huidobrensis or L. sativae. They often form serpentine mines and have patterns of yellow coloration on frons and scutellum. The genus is characterized by a stridulation mechanism between the tergites and sternites as well as the wing venation.
