Linepithema Mayr, 1866
This ant genus is native to South and Central America and includes around 20 species. Some are crop pests because they protect aphids, scales and mealybugs. Linepithema humile, the Argentine ant, is invasive in many countries and has become a serious urban pest. It now has a world-wide distribution.
