Leucopis argenticollis (predator) Zetterstedt, 1848

The larval stages of this silver fly prey on native populations of the hemlock woolly adelgid, Adelges tsugae in north-western North America. It is one of several Leucopis species found in the Pacific Northwest which received attention as biological control agents of A. tsugae, after that adelgid was accidentally introduced (from Japan) into north-eastern North America. Transferring and releasing L. argenticollis from north-western into north-eastern North America has been shown to be effective against the invasive populations of A. tsugae (Motley et al., 2017).

L. argenticollis has been also reported to be a predator of adelgids from the genus Pineus like the pine bark adelgid, Pineus strobi (Wantuch et al., 2019).
