Toxicity of plant extracts to three storage beetles (Coleoptera)
Journal of Applied Entomology - Zeitschrift für angewandte Entomologie 113 (2), 202-208
Abstract: Plant extracts were: Azadirachta indica, Chromolena odorata, Cissampelos owariensis, Daura metel (Thornapple), Datura stramonium (Jimson weed), Erythrophleum suaveolens (Ordeal tree), Grewia carpinifolia, Ricinus communis (Castor oil), Sida acuta (Malvacea), Solanum nigrum (Black night shade), Strophantus hispidus (Arrow poison). Beetles: Prostephanus truncatus, Sitophilus oryzae, Acanthoscelides obtectus (Bruchidae, Pulse beetle). The application was topically. R. communis and S. nigrum were the most effective against the three beetle species. C. owariensis and E. suaveolens were more effective and caused a higher mortality than neem extracts. S. acuta, C. odorata, G. carpinifolia and S. hispidus were least effective.
