Hieroglyphus daganensis Krauss, 1877 - (African rice grasshopper)
This grasshopper is found in the Sahel region of western Africa, where it is regarded as a pest of rice and other cereal crops. Outbreaks involving some gregarious behaviour by the grasshopper are reported from time to time. Efficient microbial control with the fungus Metarhizium acridum has been demonstrated (Lomer et al., 1997).
