Hellula undalis (Fabricius, 1781)

This cabbage webworm is found in Europe, parts of Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Pacific. It does not occur in North America, and reports from there are misidentifications for Hellula rogatalis, a very similar species. It is a serious pest of cruciferous vegetables. The larvae feed on the leaves, petioles and stems, constructing protective webbing. The growing point may be destroyed and young plants are often seriously damaged.

The larvae are up to 14 mm long, with six longitudinal brown stripes and a black head. They pupate inside their webbing, forming a silken cocoon. The adults have a wingspan of around 18 mm. The forewings are mottled in different shades of brown.
