Helicobasidium Pat. 1887

The species of this genus of rust fungi contains economically important plant pathogens that cause violet root rot. They are soil-borne and normally not host specific and can attack a wide variety of crops. Helicobasidium mompa is the most important species infecting, for example, root crops and the roots of fruit trees, but also many other plants.
