Hedera hibernica (weed) (G.Kirchn.) Carrière - (Atlantic ivy, Irish Ivy)
This species of ivy is native to areas near the Atlantic coast of Europe from Portugal to Ireland, Britain, Germany and Scandinavia. It has been introduced as an ornamental into other regions. In North America, it is regarded as invasive (Green et al., 2013) and can overgrow native vegetation. Trees may be damaged when it climbs up the trunks.
H. hibernica is similar to the common ivy, Hedera helix, and both species are difficult to distinguish taxonomically. For a review see Strelau et al. (2018).
