Haemaphysalis parva (Neumann, 1897)
This tick is found in the Mediterranean region, south-eastern Europe and parts of western Asia. It parasitises mainly small and medium size mammals like rodents or dogs, as well as ground-living birds and reptiles. However, infestations of humans have been also reported. This species can transmit a variety of disease agents, including Babesia, Coxiella, Francisella and Rickettsia species.
Like other species of Haemaphysalis, H. parva has 3 hosts for the larval, nymphal and adult stages. The total life cycle lasts around 2-2½ months under laboratory conditions.
