Globisporangium spinosum (Sawada) Uzuhashi, Tojo & Kakish. 2010
This oomycete is widely distributed, especially in warmer regions. It is soil-borne and causes root-rot and damping-off diseases on a variety of crops, for example vegetables, ornamentals or field crops like maize and soybeans. These diseases can result in substantial yield losses over entire fields.
The female oogonia have an average diameter of 15-20 µm with finger-like projections on the walls. The mature oospores have a diameter of around 15 µm.
Synonym:
Pythium spinosum
