Geotrichum citri-aurantii (Ferraris 1899) E.E. Butler 1988
G. citri-aurantii is a common soil-inhabiting fungus and is widely distributed. It causes post-harvest sour rot on citrus. Like Penicillium digitatum and other Penicillium species, infections by G. citri-aurantii are usually initiated by the fungus entering the fruits through small wounds, created during harvesting. Infected fruits rot and decay. The disease is not as common compared Penicillium infections, but losses can be high, especially if fruits are stored under conditions of high humidity.
