Abstract: This is the first contribution of the series "Phlebotominae (Diptera: Psychodidae) of Mexico", in which taxonomic generalities known to date of the genera Brumptomyia França and Parrot and Lutzomyia França are presented. In relation to Brumptornyia, the two species known to date in Mexico are included, B. hamata (Fairchild and Hertig), and B. mesai Sherlock, which is here revalidated from its synonym with B. galindoi (Fairchild and Hertig). In relation to the genus Lutzomyia, the subgenus Lutzomyia, represented by L. cruciata (Coquillett), L. diabolica (Hall), L. gomezi (Nitzulescu) and L. longipalpis (Lutz and Neiva), and the species group Verrucarum, with L. serrana (Damasceno and Arouck) and L. ovallesi (Ortiz), are presented. Some geographic records of the species are added.
