Fig cryptic virus - (FCV)
This virus is widely distributed in the Mediterranean region, where it has been recorded from fig trees with an incidence of around 5 to 20%. It apparently does not cause any disease symptoms on infected trees. In some cases symptoms like chlorosis, necrotic spots and vein clearing have been associated with infected trees, but these could be due to mixed infections with other viruses.
Like other partitiviruses, FCV contains 2 double-stranded RNA molecules. RNA-1 and RNA-2 have a length of 1419 nt and 1014 nt respectively, and both contain a single ORF (Elbeaino et al., 2011). RNA-1 encodes the RNA dependent RNA polymerase and RNA-2 the coat protein.
