Exorista sorbillans (Wiedemann, 1830) - (silkworm uzi fly)

This species of tachnid flies, is one of several parasitoids that are harmful to silkworm cultures. It has been reported from various regions like Asia, and Africa. It can be destructive to silkworm cultures and need to be controlled, e.g. through the use of fly-proof screens. However, E. sorbillans can also be a beneficial parasitoid, attacking pest Lepidoptera, see the page on Exorista sorbillans (as a beneficial parasitoid).

E. sorbillans has been and is often regarded as a synonym of Exorista bombycis, see Narayanaswamy & Govindan (2000) for a discussion on this synonymy.
