Exorista Meigen, 1803 - (silkworm parasitoids, uzi flies)

This genus of tachinid flies contains several species of parasitoids that are beneficial for the biological control of pest Lepidoptera, see the page on Exorista (parasitoids of pests). However, two species of uzi flies (or ujiflies) are by themselves pests and are harmful to silkworms and other beneficial insects. In Asia, these can be destructive in silkworm cultures and need to be controlled. The most effective and economical management method is the use of fly-proof screens in the rearing facilities.
