This genus of soft scales contains around 50 species. Several of them are regarded as agricultural or forest pests and infest the branches of various trees, including fruit trees and ornamentals. For example, the calico scale (Eulecanium cerasorum) is a common pest on ornamental trees in North America. The adult females are typically hemispherical and shiny and may resemble galls.
