Erwinia papayae Gardan et al., 2004 - (bacterial canker of papaya)
This bacterium has been originally described as causing a fatal bacterial stem canker on papaya plants (Carica papaya) in Caribbean islands (Gardan et al., 2004). The type strain was isolated on Martinique. Artificially infected plants initially develop "water-soaked, greasy spots around the inoculation point, 5–7 days after inoculation".
