Epilobium angustifolium (weed) L. - (fireweed)

This plant species is widespread in the northern hemisphere, but is mainly regarded as a weed in North America where it is often found in certain habitats like forest environments. It can form large patches, e.g. after forest fires, which suppress other vegetation.

The seeds have silky hairs and easily spread by wind. Further, it has an extensive system of rhizomes and patches also expand by underground roots. The plants typically grow to a height of around 1 m. The leaves are lancet-like with a short petiole. The flowers are magenta to pink, about 2-3 cm in diameter.
