Food selection by locusts an analysis of rejection behavior
Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata 38 (1), 35-40
Abstract: A detailed description was given of food selection behavior in Schistocerca gregaria and Locusta migratoria on plants of differing palatabilities, namely Agropyron repens and Seneico vulgaris. Experience of an unpalatable plant alters the stage in the hierarchal testing sequence at which rejection occurs. The importance of the plant surface was discussed and a mechanism of short-term learning to explain changes in selection behavior was proposed.
