Dryocoetes betulae Hopkins - (birch bark beetle)
This bark beetle infests mainly paper birch (Betula papyrifera) in North America. However, there are also records of infestations of other broad-leaved trees. Mainly weak and dying trees are attacked and this is initiated by a male, followed by 2-3 females (Furniss & Kegley, 2006). Irregular galleries are formed by the adults and the larvae.
