Doryctobracon areolatus (parasitoid) (Szepligeti, 1911)

This wasp is found in South and Central America, up to southern North America. It is a solitary koinobiont endoparasitoid of fruit fly larvae, especially Anastrepha species. Mostly 2nd or 3rd instar larvae are attacked.

D. areolatus can be common and the dominant parasitoid in some areas on some fruits, accounting for more than half of the fruit fly parasitoids. However, rearing it has been difficult so far.
