Dioscorea oppositifolia (weed) L. - (Chinese yam, cinnamon-vine)

This plant can be cultivated for its tubers and is native to Asia. In North America, it has escaped cultivation and become invasive. It is now established over central southern and eastern parts of the U.S. The plant is a fast-growing vine which is found mostly along the edges of forests and along streams. It covers and suppresses native vegetation.

The plant propagates mainly through sprouting bulbils which are vegetatively produced aerial bulbs. However, propagation through seeds and ground tubers is also possible. The name "Chinese yam" may also refer to the cultivated Dioscorea polystachya.
