Dendroctonus armandi Tsai & Li, 1959 - (Chinese white pine beetle)

The beetle attacks Chinese white pine trees (Pinus armandii) in China. In contrast to many other Dendroctonus species, it infests mainly healthy trees, older than 30 years. Outbreaks can result in significant tree mortality. It has been estimated that between 1970 and 2010 the beetle has killed around 3 × 108 m3 of white pines in the Qinling Mountains of China (Xie & Lv, 2012). Females use a pheromone to attract both males and females and the development of the immature stages is completed within the phloem of P. armandii.
