Dendroctonus approximatus Dietz, 1890 - (larger Mexican pine beetle)

The bark beetle is found in Central America and in southern parts of North America. It mainly infests weakened and freshly felled trees that have been already attacked by primary bark beetles. Therefore, it is not regarded as an aggressive species.
