This genus of fungi is widely distributed. The pathogenic species cause root and collar rots on a variety of crops such as fruit trees , grapevine and other crops like coffee, cacao or rubber. Economically, the most important species is Dematophora necatrix.
Taxonomically, the genus has long included the asexual forms from the genus Rosellinia and after the introduction of the new taxonomic system in 2010, it was regarded as a synonym of Rosellinia. However, it is now regarded as a separate genus (Wittstein et al., 2020).
