Cytorhabdovirus lactucanecante (LNYV)

Assigned virus:
lettuce necrotic yellows virus (LNYV)

The lettuce necrotic yellows virus is found in Australia, New Zealand and China, mainly on sow thistles (Sonchus). It causes a serious disease when it spreads to lettuce through the currant-sowthistle aphid, Hyperomyzus lactucae. Transmission occurs persistently in a propagative manner. On lettuce, the main symptoms are plant stunting, leaf chlorosis, leaf roughness and occasional necrosis within leaf tissue. Other crops like garlic can also become infected. Further, experimental, mechanical transmission to plants like tobacco is possible.
