Cyphocleonus Motschulsky, 1860

This genus contains around 30 species of plant-feeding weevils which are native to Europe and surrounding regions. Several are considered important natural biological control agents of certain weeds and some of these have been introduced into other regions. E.g. Cyphocleonus achates has been introduced into North America against spotted knapweed, Centaurea stoebe micranthos. The adults feed on the leaves and deposits their eggs on the root crown. The larvae bore into the roots for feeding. Larvae of other species feed on the stems.


Currently, the following species have been entered into the system:
