Cynoglossum officinale (weed) Linnaeus - (hound's tongue)
This plant is an invasive, biennial weed of pastures and forests in North America. It is native to Eurasia and can be found from Central Asia to the Atlantic, only absent in the extreme south and north of Britain and southern Scandinavia. In Europe it may be rare and grows in open woodlands, meadows and field borders. The introduction into North America occurred during the mid-nineteenth century as a feed contaminant and it has spread to most temperate areas. It is toxic and the barbed nutlets cause irritation to cattle.
