Culiseta melanura (Coquillett)
This mosquito is found in eastern North America from Canada to Mexico. It is an important enzootic and epidemic vector for eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE). Common hosts are birds and lizards, but mammals, including humans are also used as hosts (West et al., 2020).
Forested wetlands like forest swamps are common habitats and breeding areas for C. melanura (Skaff et al., 2017). It overwinters in the larval stage (Andreadis et al., 2012).
