Cotton leaf curl Multan virus (CLCuMV)

This virus is part of a complex of virus species causing the cotton leaf curl disease in India and Pakistan. Infected cotton plants show leaf curling, vein thickening, stunting, and leaf like enations. Cotton yield is significantly reduced in diseased plants. There have been several disease outbreaks in Pakistan and India since the 1990s. The Cotton leaf curl Multan virus (CLCuMV) is commonly involved in such outbreaks. CLCuMV has been also reported from China and may infect other plants like hibiscus (e.g. see Arif et al., 2018).
