This genus of plant-sucking lace bugs is widely distributed, especially in North and Central America. It contains more than 75 species that are typically specialized on a narrow range of host plants.
Several species are invasive and have spread to other regions. Some of them have become serious pests like the sycamore lace bug, Corythucha ciliata. The genus is characterized, among others, by the shape and ornamentation of the pronotum. Part of the pronotum forms a hood-like structure, covering most parts of the head.
Currently, the following species have been entered into the system:
