Corchorus olitorius is a tropical plant, widely grown since historical times in Asia and Africa for is fibre and as a vegetable. However, the uncultivated, wild type is regarded as an agricultural weed in many countries, affecting crops like maize or soybeans. The plant grows to a height of more than 1 m. The elliptic leaves are serrated and around 4-5 cm long. The flowers are small and yellow.
