Coccus Linnaeus, 1758
This genus of soft scales contains around 100 species, a number of which are important agricultural pests. They are mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions, often infesting woody crops like citrus, coffee or grapevine. The taxonomy and the corresponding diagnostic characteristics of the genus have been revised various times with many species being re-assigned to other genera.
