Citrus bark cracking viroid (CBCVd)

This viroid has been reported from citrus trees in North America and various other citrus growing regions. It is associated with bark cracking and dwarfing on certain citrus cultivars. However, the effects on yield are usually insignificant. In combination with the Hop stunt viroid it also causes a more serious disease on citrus, resulting in yield losses.

In Slovenia, infections of CBCVd on hop has caused severe stunting since 2007. Apart from stunting, the symptoms on hop include chlorosis, curling of the leaves and root rot. The disease can be lethal to hop plants (e.g. Jakse et al., 2015). The hop disease is causing high economic losses and is still spreading.
