Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai (weed)
This species grows in warm and semi-arid regions. It includes the cultivated watermelon (Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus), but also several weedy forms that are characterized by small and bitter fruits:
• Citrullus lanatus var. citroides (citron melon) is an agricultural weed in parts of North America.
• Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus (wild melon) can also be weedy and is, for example, a problem in Australia. Note that the weedy Cucumis melo is also called "wild melon".
